QMS Involved With Russia Export Restriction Efforts

21 September 2011

SCOTLAND, UK - Quality Meat Scotland (QMS)has announced that it will be fully involved with efforts to help lift beef export restrictions for the UK by Russia, which were on the agenda during the Prime Minister's visit to Moscow last week.

Jim McLaren, Chairman of QMS commented that as an active participant in the UK Export Certification Partnership (ECP), QMS is fully involved with all efforts being made to lift the remaining export restrictions to Russia.

He continued: “If successful, Scotland’s red meat producers and processors could benefit from a trade worth more than £100 million to the UK market. We also believe there is scope for developing the premium and commodity markets in North America and China.”

“QMS has been working for some time on our own export review which includes third countries such as Russia, and this is currently being considered by our Board with the launch planned to take place in October at the leading Cologne food fair, Anuga.”
