JBS Temporarily Closes Toowoomba Plant

30 June 2011

AUSTRALIA - More than 1,000 workers are to be laid off for at least two weeks as JBS Australia closes its Toowoomba Beef City meat plant.

The temporary closure has been forced on the company by a drop off in the Japanese market and poor trading conditions brought about by the strong Australian dollar.

The plant that mainly supplies chilled product for export has dismissed union concerns that the closure could be longer than two weeks according to a report on ABC.
