Outbreak in China
CHINA - The veterinary authorities have informed the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) about a new outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease (FMD).The Chinese veterinary authority sent an Immediate Notification to OIE dated 15 May.
It reports one new outbreak of FMD at a farm at Guilin in Guangxi province in the south-eastern part of the country. It started on 28 April on a farm with 60 cattle and 40 pigs. Only one of the cattle was affected but both herds were destroyed.
This is the first occurrence of the Asia 1 serotype of FMD in China, according to the report.
