This framework with a budget of almost €1.9 billion covering the period 2014-2020 will fund priorities in the area of food and feed.

It will underpin the animal, plant and control package of reforms adopted by the Commission in May 2013, which will simplify the regulatory environment and reduce the administrative burden on food business operators.

Commissioner for Health, Tonio Borg said: "I welcome the Parliament’s positive vote on this modernised food chain financial framework and thank the rapporteur Mrs Le Brun MEP for her commitment to bringing this financial package forward. I believe this financial framework will be an indispensable tool to support our policy objectives by providing an efficient distribution, simplified procedures and flexibility to react to unexpected situations."
