The ban follows the discovery of traces of the banned hormone trenbolone acetate in some chilled beef and by-products that had been imported from Australia.

The growth stimulant is banned in Russia and other countries in the Customs Union.

The temporary restictions on the supply of beef by-products will start on 27 January.
