The potential co-product value of a heavy steer was steady in September, with little change from August levels. It is 11 per cent above year on year figures for A$232.63 for a carcass weight of 331 kg.

So says the Kurrajong Meat Technology co-products monitor, which also reported average hide values, 20 per cent above August.

A markets commentator at Meat and Livestock Australia added: "The average value for hides in September was considerably higher on August, at $79.88/head, increasing 37 per cent on the corresponding period last year, buoyed by reportedly strong interest at the Shanghai Leather Fair held at the beginning of September."
