After much lobbying, the timelines for the payment of €200 million worth of payments for 95,000 have been confirmed, with the 50 per cent advance of the Single Farm Payment confirmed for October 16.

The IFA says the payments are vital for the viability of rural businesses, given the tough year that farmers have had.

Fior McCarthy, IFA Rural Development Chairman, said that Ministers had put up a good fight for the farmers’ cause to ensure the supports were maintained.

Agri-environment schemes and the Rural Development Plan 2014-2020 are at the heart of current disadvantaged area supports.
