OIE Reports FMD in Cattle in Xinjiang

CHINA - The Chinese veterinary authorities have reported an outbreak of foot and mouth disease at a farm located in Xinjiang, affecting cattle populations.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received an immediate notification on 16 April stating that the causal agent was the FMD virus, serotype A. 

According to the report received, 12 animals were found susceptible, out of which all 12 were affected and as a result, destroyed.

The origin of the infection remains inconclusive.

Several control measures such as stamping out, quarantine, movement control inside the country, screening, zoning, disinfection of infected premises/establishment(s) and dipping/spraying have been applied.

No animals have been vaccinated, and the affected animals did not receive treatment.
