Beef Specification Agreement A Step Closer

URUGUAY/RUSSIA – Trade meetings held by Uruguayan and Russian officials have come close to developing a quota and categorisation system of beef quality for shipment to Russia.

Russia currently specify beef quality requirements. Statesmen have revealed that higher quality meats will be bought for higher prices and not have quota limits.

Headed by the Tabré Aguerre, President of the National Meat Institute President (INAC), the talks come at an important time for developing Russia trade and politics relations.

Disputes with the US Department of Agriculture over the growth promoter ractopamine in meat consignments earlier this week have caused upset in both US and Russian beef industries and formative talks with Uruguay are welcomed, added M Aguerre.


Negotiations began in August last year when the country dealt with the entry into the WTO, the World Trade Organization.
