First Case of Schmallenberg in Spain

14 March 2012

SPAIN - A malformed, aborted lamb with lesions has confirmed the first case of Schmallenberg virus on a farm in Spain.

The farm is in Hinojosa del Duque (Cordoba), Andalucia.

The detection of the virus is the result of a monitoring plan that was implemented in January, after the virus was discovered in Germany.

Monitoring of neighbouring livestock farms has increased.
