$2.25 Million Angus Sales

AUSTRALIA - Buyers from throughout the nation scrambled to get their hands on Angus genetics at the two day Vermont dispersal at Penshurst, Victoria, on March 22 and 23, parting with $2.25 million for 340 cows, 316 heifers, 53 bulls and 160 embryos.

Keith Kerridge of Bannaby Angus, Taralga, New South Wales, paid $45,000, the highest price ever for an Angus female at auction in Australia, for the four year old Vermont Dream B227. The previous record was $38,000 paid by Anvil Angus for a Banquet cow at the 2008 Sydney Royal sale.

Bulls sold to $40,000 and heifers to $37,000 as the Vermont genetics, so carefully put together over the years by managers and part owners Graham and Kyle Winnell, generated strong bidding duels.

Sales averages were:

  • 175 cows & calves sold to $22,000. Average: $3474
  • 165 cows sold to $45,000 (a breed female record). Average: $3177
  • 316 heifers including recipients sold to $37,000. Average: $2606
  • 169 embryos sold to $4500. Average: $594
  • 53 E drop bulls sold to $40,000. Average: $3712
  • Semen sold to $140. Average $29
  • Sale gross $2.25 million.
