Bluetongue Vaccine: Take-up Worries Flare

UK - A dramatic fall in the take-up of bluetongue vaccine could have serious ramifications on the vaccination strategy next year, the industry has warned.

With many farmers in Wales and Northern England still refusing to vaccinate, there are now fears the recent drop in take-up could leave the UK short of vaccine next year.

Nicky Paull, president of the British Veterinary Association said: “The feeling around at the moment will be the same next spring and vets have to work very hard to keep vaccination going because we may lose some of the momentum.

“Our big concern is that if farmers don’t use the vaccine this year, the pharmaceutical companies might not produce it for the UK market next yea
