Doors Open for Uruguayan Imports to Russia
RUSSIA - Following a meeting between, Sergey Dankvert, the head of the Russian food safety and inspection authority, Rosselkhoznador, and the Uruguayan ambassador, Jorge Meyer Long, doors have opened up for the import of beef and live cattle into Russia.Joint food safety inspections of Uruguayan meat processing plants are due to start in February next year and will be carried out quarterly.
The two sides have agreed that the quality of the meat should be the same whether it is to go forward for further processing or to be sold directly onto the retail market.
The Russian Authorities have said that they are also interested in importing live animals into the country.
