More trouble foreseen for NZ beef

NEW ZEALAND - New Zealand beef production is likely to suffer from an expected surge in dairy farm conversions.

Fed up with two years of low lamb returns, sheep farmers are lining up to convert their farms to dairying, to take advantage of rocketing milk prices.

If that happens, Rabobank senior analyst Hayley Moynihan says it will increase the demand for cows and calves to stock dairy farms - reducing the number available for beef production.
