Ground Beef Recall Widens

US - The recall of ground beef sold by several San Diego supermarket chains due to possible E. coli contamination has grown.

The recall of ground beef sold by several San Diego supermarket chains due to possible E. coli contamination has grown, officials announced Wednesday.

Vernon-based United Food Group, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the California State Department of Health Services, said the voluntary recall now includes an additional 370,000 pounds of ground beef that may have been contaminated with the potentially deadly bacteria.

The fresh tubes of ground beef, subject to the expanded recall, were produced at United Food Group's facility in Vernon on April 13, and were distributed under the following brand names:
  • Moran's All Natural
  • Miller Meat Company
  • Stater Bros.
  • Inter-American Products Inc.
  • Basha's
The recalled products had sell-by dates from April 20 through May 7. It included Moran's brand meat sold in 1- to 5-pound varieties under UPC numbers 34779 60501, 34779 60000, 34779 96000, 34779 91000, 34779 60010, 34779 96194, 34779 21117.

Also recalled was Albertsons 90/10 Sirloin fresh hamburger patties.

Customers can return recalled products to the store for a full refund or exchange. Customers with questions about the recall can call United Food Group's hotline at 1-800-325-4164.
