Brazil Capable Of Doubling Beef Exports

BRAZIL - According to Brazil’s National Agriculture Confederation (CNA), Brazil has the capacity to meet increased beef export demand. CNA estimates that beef available for export could more than double if slaughter rates increased from 22% of the national herd to 30%.

This rise would allow the exportable surplus to increase from the current level of 2.2 million tonnes to 5.6 million tonnes.

This rise in supply could only be absorbed if Brazil gained market access to other markets such as Japan. Despite being the largest beef exporter in the world, Brazil is currently not able to access 60% of the world beef market due to foot and mouth disease restrictions.
