S. Korea, U.S. To Hold Technical Meeting On U.S. Beef
SOUTH KOREA - Officials from South Korea and the United States will meet early this week to discuss quarantine measures for U.S. beef shipments, the government said Sunday.

Last week, Seoul resumed the U.S. beef import for the first time in more than three years, completing quarantine procedures for 6.4 tons of U.S. beef. In a deal reached in January 2006, Seoul agreed to the reopening of the market to U.S. beef, but insisted that imports be restricted to boneless products from cattle less than 30 months old.
Washington has requested the technical meeting to discuss detailed steps Seoul plans to take when it finds bone chips in U.S. beef shipments and tries to send back the packages, according to the ministry. The meeting will also deal with the two sides' stance on a potential ruling on the safety of U.S. beef due out next month by the World Animal Health Organization (OIE).
