U.S. May File Complaint Over Japan Beef Dispute

US - The United States is threatening to file a complaint with the World Trade Organization if Japan doesn't set a concrete deadline to soften its requirements for U.S. beef being imported into the country, according to a report by Japan’s Kyodo news agency.

The report says the threat could put pressure on Tokyo ahead of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's visit to the U.S. for summit talks later this month.

Japan will only accept beef from cattle aged up to 20 months. Certain risk materials must also be completely removed.
