That's how North Dakota Senator Byron Dorgan characterizes the effort to re-open the border to all cattle from Canada.

Dorgan says Ag Secretary Mike Johanns is ignoring evidence of problems in the Canadian herd and is pushing to allow all live cattle imports from Canada.

Those imports have been restricted for years - since the first case of BSE, or mad cow disease, was discovered in Canada.

Dorgan says the ag secretary's time would be better-spent implementing 'country of origin' labeling for US-grown beef...

(Sen. Byron Dorgan, (D) ND) "If the secretary of Agriculture has some time on his hands and wants to move quickly on something, he ought to move on country of origin labeling. Country of origin labeling would give not only American consumers but foreign consumers an understanding of what kind of meat are they buying. That's the law of the land and the secretary has been dragging his feet on it."
