Taiwan to decide on Canada beef ban

AUSTRALIA - Taiwanese officials have completed inspections of quarantine and packaging procedures in Canada, clearing the way for a decision on whether to lift the ban on Canadian beef imports (Meatingplace.com).

The Department of Health is expected to rule on the matter sometime in late February. Prior to the BSE-related ban in May 2003, Taiwan was the fifth largest importer of Canadian beef, importing around 8,000 tonnes.
