Limousin bids to 8,500gns at Carlisle

UK - A home-bred five-year old cow topped the trade at 8,500gns when pedigree Limousin cattle from the Grahams, Lodge, Burnbank and Ioman herds went under the hammer at Carlisle, on Saturday.

Sale topper was the Paon daughter, Grahams Sophie, from R.B. Graham, Bridge of Allan, Stirling. Featuring full French bloodlines, Sophie is out of Parade and sold to J. Gammie, Laurencekrik, Kincardineshire, for his Westpit herd. With a beef value of LM23, Sophie is a third calver and was sold in calf to Samy, the Burke Trophy Winner at the 2005 and 2006 Royal Show.

A bid of 7,800gns from I. Brown, Holbech, Spalding, Lincolnshire, bought the 2001-born cow Graham Sibylle who was sired by Nounours, out of Nicotine and sold in-calf to the stock bull Rodeo. A few lots later, Sibylle’s daughter, two-year-old Grahams Virtue, sired by Waindale Prime, was sold to E. Blenkhorn and Son, Howden, Humberside, for 5,000gns.

The Grahams’ stock bull, Rodeo, realised 7,500gns when he sold to an undisclosed buyer. Born in October 2000 and sired by the Jersey son, Noduleux, he was out of Lame.

Another undisclosed buyer bought Grahams Upperclass for 7,000gns. Born in September 2003, this first calver was by Grahams Poncho and is out of Nicole. With a beef value of LM28, Upperclass was sold with her Rodeo-sired bull calf, Grahams Badger, at foot.

Selling into Fife was the maiden heifer, Grahams Virtuous, who also hit the 7,000gns mark. Born in November 2004 she was sired by Icare and out of Rosita, and sold to J. Thomson, Kelty, Fife.

A first production sale from the Lodge Herd of W.I. and A.W. Callion, Stirling, saw prices peak at 7,000gns for the cow and calf unit of Ronick Image and her bull calf Lodge Badge. At 13 years old, Tarvis-sired Image, out of Broadmeadows Ainsi, realised 5,500gns when sold to J. Ferguson and Sons, Comber, County Down, Northern Ireland. She was in-calf to Lodge herd sire, Ronick Urinocco.
