The campaign has the full support of farming organisations, meat factories and Teagasc and auditing of all farms applying in 2006 is free of charge. It was launched last week on the farm of Michael and Ann Mellett, Shrule.

The scheme, which was revised last year, is now accredited to the highest European standard and involves independent inspection and certification of beef producers. This ensures that purchasers of Irish beef can have complete confidence in the safety and quality of the product.

Announcing details of the Mayo campaign, Bord Bia Chief Executive, Aidan Cotter, said participation of beef farmers in the scheme is the passport to securing access to the leading retail, food service and manufacturing outlets throughout Europe.
