NFU's Back British Tour Picks Up Morrisons Pledge

National Farmers Union

UK - NFU's Back British Farming tour chalked up a big win in the North East on Tuesday (1 October) when Yorkshire-based supermarket Morrisons signed the Back British Farming Charter.

With the valuable signature on board, NFU's nationwide journey then continued on to the iconic Angel of the North for a photo with local NFU members and their produce.

The charter was launched in August to put more British food on British plates, after it emerged that the UK now produces just 62% of its food.

It calls on the public, politicians, retailers and the food industry to pull together and produce, source and consume more home-grown produce.

NFU is currently touring the country with a special Ad Van vehicle to get the message across, on a whistle-stop tour which began on Monday outside the Conservative Party Conference.

NFU North East director Richard Pearson said: "Morrisons has been a long-term supporter of UK agriculture and it is important to recognise their contributions and commitment to supporting the Red Tractor mark across their products.

"Just recently they have stepped up their commitment to British beef producers and their involvement today is further proof of their determination to work in partnership with ourfarmers and growers."
