With 67 per cent of the meat consumed in China being pork, there is a huge opportunity for beef.

There are also over 20 million farmers leaving the industry every year and becoming consumers in the city, Mr Hardwick said.

China eats 25 per cent of the world's meat, and has a 1.1 million tonnes meat defecit per annum.

China is the fourth largest global importer of beef, importing 450,000 tonnes a year.

A UK delegation is heading to China this week to look at setting up regular exports of beef and beef products.
