Imported US Beef Values Drop

AUSTRALIA - Two weeks ago, factors started to emerge indicating that US imported beef prices would face downward pressure, with US cow slaughter rising, US domestic prices easing and demand at US foodservice again starting to show signs of weakness.

This week, while imported beef supplies still remain tight, a combination of ample supplies of US domestic manufacturing beef, a strong A$ and softer US domestic demand, has resulted in US imported manufacturing beef prices falling between 3-6US¢ on last week, reports Meat and Livestock Australia.

It is worth noting though, that seasonally beef values in the US tend to decline at this time of year, due to the end of the “summer grilling” season – a peak beef consumption period.
