The panel for the COOK contest was made up of chefs and culinary journalists who compared a range of rib eye steaks from all around the world at a well known steakhouse in Wallonia.

The steaks, sourced from major Belgian wholesalers, included leading products such as dry-aged Aberdeen Angus and Hereford beef.

And they unanimously picked out the Alec Jarrett's Quality Standard English beef matured on the bone as being the best of the bunch, with comments such as "very tender with lots of character and excellent texture" and "succulent fat and pronounced taste".

Stephen Rossides, Director of the British Meat Processors Association, said: "Well done to all at Alec Jarrett Ltd. The EBLEX Quality Standard for English beef has a well-deserved reputation around the world for its taste and overall eating experience. To be picked first in such a prestigious competition in Belgium is further evidence of its quality."
