About 120 delegates from five continents will view some of the finest Simmental cattle the North of England can offer at the Thirsk Rural Business Centre and Auction Mart on Tuesday.

Brian Wise, chairman of the North-East Simmental Club, said they hoped to put on a good show, despite the latest Bluetongue restrictions, which have played havoc with their plans. He said they hoped breeders from the region would exhibit their best stock to promote interest in British Simmental genetics.

He said: "Having such a large delegation of internationally renowned breeders from the likes of China, Australia, Canada and Brazil passing through Yorkshire was too good an opportunity to miss.

"Britain used to be known as the stockyard of the world; we want to ensure this is once again the case."

The congress began in Northern Ireland on June 15, takes in Scotland and England before ending in Warwick on June 30.

The itinerary includes the Royal Highland Show and 17 herd visits.
