A Russian mission set out to strengthen its relationship with Brazil through audits of meat processing plants. The goal was to ensure that Brazil is maintaining a high standard of quality and safety in the processing of agricultural products.

The Federal Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance Service of the Russian Federation (Rosselkhoznadzor) concluded its inspection mission, the first since 2015, in December. The mission inspected six poultry and five beef plants.

The Russian delegation travelled through six Brazilian states and the Federal District. The visit included technical meetings with representatives of the Secretariat of Agricultural Defense (SDA) and the Secretariat of Commerce and International Relations (SCRI) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (Mapa). In addition to slaughterhouses, authorities visited cattle and poultry breeding establishments and official laboratories, presenting sanitary controls from one end of the production chain to the other.

Brazilian exports of beef and poultry to the Russian market, which in 2022 totalled US$ 278 million and represented 15.4% of the Brazilian tariff, continued to grow in 2023. Between January and October of this year, the trade flow has already reached US$ 250 million, reaching 22.2% of total Brazilian exports to Russia.
