USA Bill Passed to Reauthorize Livestock Mandatory Price Reporting Act for Five Years
US - The U.S. Senate this evening passed by unanimous consent a bill to reauthorize for five years the Livestock Mandatory Price Reporting Act. The bill, passed by the House in late 2005, now goes to the White House for President Bush’s signature.“AMI is pleased that the bill passed. Its provisions further enhance the reporting program,” said AMI Senior Vice president of Legislative Affairs Mike Brown. “This was a long process, but the success of the bill’s passage can be attributed to consensus building efforts established by House Agriculture Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA) and Ranking Minority Member Colin Peterson (D-MN), as well as exhaustive due diligence by Senate Agriculture Committee Chairman Saxby Chambliss (R-GA) and Iowa Senators Charles Grassley (R-IA) and Tom Harkin (D-IA).
The bill included provisions supported by the National Cattleman’s Beef Association, the National Pork Producer's Council, the American Farm Bureau Federation and the American Sheep Industry Association.
