America's mad cow hypocrisy

CANADA - Last spring, a single cow in Alberta was discovered to have bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), also known as mad cow disease. And last December, a second cow, born in Canada, was found with the disease in Washington State. By the standards of mad cow "scares" in other nations, this is negligible. But to hear some protectionist-minded U.S. cattlemen and politicians tell it, Canada is suffering a mad cow epidemic.
