Trouw Nutrition, Nutreco’s animal nutrition division, and Wageningen University & Research (WUR) have expressed in a Letter of Intent their intention to strengthen collaboration to accelerate scientific progress in the domain of animal and food sciences. The cooperation aims to enhance sustainability of livestock production by developing knowledge and accelerating innovations in animal nutrition to improve animal health and welfare.

The intention to initiate research projects builds on a long-standing history of joint research in animal sciences. Current and future projects focus on early life nutrition, precision nutrition, and nutrition in relation to health and welfare of livestock.

Remarking on the collaboration, Coen Smits, R&D Director, Trouw Nutrition, stated, “We are delighted to strengthen our partnership recognizing our long-standing collaboration in animal sciences. Trouw Nutrition’s leadership in the animal feed industry, coupled with the renowned team of scientists at WUR, informs our conviction that together we can accelerate the ongoing development towards sustainability in the field of animal nutrition and fulfil our commitment to our purpose of Feeding the Future”.

Wouter Hendriks, chair of Animal Nutrition at Wageningen University & Research noted, “We welcome this commitment and the intention to strengthen our cooperation. This fits well with the WUR motto of our strategic plan: Finding answers together. Through cooperation with a range of societal partners, our WUR knowledge in the areas of sustainability, animal welfare and health can be translated into innovative solutions and implementation in practice, thus realising societal impact.”
