Second stage of vaccination against FMD extended in 13 Brazilian states
The second stage of the vaccination campaign against foot-and-mouth disease, which would initially end on November 30, has been extended in 13 federal units in Brazil.

The extension of the term, mainly due to the pandemic of the new Coronavirus (Covid-19), was evaluated and authorized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Supply (Mapa).
At this stage, bovines and buffaloes up to 2 years of age are vaccinated in most Brazilian states, according to the National Vaccination Calendar 2020.
For ranchers in Sergipe and the Federal District, the extension is valid until next Friday (4). In the state of Mato Grosso, the new term will be until December 10 and in Maranhão, until the 14th. As for the states of Piauí, Pernambuco, Espírito Santo, Alagoas, Rio de Janeiro and Rio Grande do Norte, the extension of the term runs until December 15th. In the state of Ceará, the extension runs until the 19th. Finally, producers in Amapá and Paraíba will have until the 31st of December to carry out the immunization.
Vaccines must be purchased at authorized resellers and kept between 2°C and 8°C, from acquisition to the moment of use - including transport and application, already on the farm. New needles should be used to apply the dose of 2 ml on the neck board of each animal, preferring the cooler hours of the day, to make the animals adequate containment and the vaccine application.
In addition to vaccination, the producer must provide proof with the animal health protection agency in his state. The vaccine declaration can be delivered online or, when this is not possible, in person at the stations designated by the state veterinary service within the stipulated deadlines.
