Further Bluetongue Outbreaks Reported in Europe

16 November 2015

EUROPE - Eleven outbreaks of bluetongue were reported last week in France, and four were reported in Hungary.

The outbreaks in France were of serotype 8, whilst the serotype in Hungary has not yet been confirmed.

The virus was found in samples from the French cattle during analytical surveillance, confirming 12 cases of the disease.

The outbreaks left 2766 cattle susceptible to bluetongue across the two countries.

The French outbreaks (see map above) occurred mainly in the regions of Puy-de-Dôme and Cantal, whilst the outbreaks in Hungary were widespread across the regions of Baranya, Borsod-Abauj-Zemplen and Somogy.
