Calls on Government to Help Pay For Bluetongue Vaccination

06 February 2015

SPAIN – A body representing Spain’s cooperative movement has called on national and regional government budgets to assist in paying for Bluetongue vaccinations.

Cooperative Agro-alimetaria wants to see part of the costs covered by the ministry of agriculture and some autonomous regions.

This is part of a several suggestions as to how to invest in safeguarding Spain and the rest of Europe from repeat cases, which dismissed short, medium and long term costs as insignificant compared to another outbreak in a larger population.

More effort should be placed on protecting the borders of the wider European Union, creating buffer zones or ‘belts’ against disease entry.

Any national plan should be homogenous, the cooperative added.
