South Korea Reports FMD Outbreak in Pigs
SOUTH KOREA - A new outbreak of foot and mouth disease has occurred in central South Korea, the first outbreak for three months.
The South Korean veterinary service sent an Immediate Notification dated 4 December to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).
On 3 December, an outbreak of FMD began at a farm in Jincheon-eup, which is in North Chungcheong province (Chungcheongbuk-do) in the centre of the country. Of the 15,884 pigs on the farm, 30 died and a further 574 were destroyed.
The last outbreak of FMD in the country was in September 2014.
