Russia Extends EU Food Import Ban on Safety Grounds
RUSSIA - Rosselkhoznadzor as announced the introduction of temporary restrictions on the import of some meat products from the European Union.

Yevgeny Nepoklonov, Deputy Head of the Rosselkhoznadzor, has notified Bernard Van Goethem, Director of the European Commission Directorate General for Health and Consumers, of introduction from 21 October 2014 of temporary restrictions for imports into Russia from European Union countries of some types of products for human consumption.
The ban covers bovine and porcine by-products, food-grade fine and coarse meal from meat or meat by-products, bovine fat, porcine fat (including hog grease) and poultry fat.
Multiple detections of banned and harmful substances in delivered into Russia from European Union countries by-products is the reason given for the ban.
Shipments of these products dispatched before 21 October 2014 or delivered by the European Union to the Russian border before 26 October 2014 will be assessed for entry by Rosselkhoznadzor under the normal procedure of sampling and testing for safety.
