Transatlantic Trade Deal Must Be Backed by Agriculture

EU–US – Strong commitment from within agriculture is required if a Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is to be reached, negotiators have heard this week.

US agriculture secretary Tom Vilsack headed to Brussels this week to discuss the trade deal a year after talks first commenced.

Dismissing the current agreement in place between the US and Canada as unacceptable, he insisted that a ‘common ground’ must be found that does not limit the market for US cheese exporters.

He placed particular emphasis on Geographical Indication.
