The free package was developed by the EBLEX Better Returns Programme (BRP), in conjunction with Signet Breeding Services, and covers a range of topics such as the importance of breeding, assessing breeding potential, the value of genetics and the importance of bull longevity.

The online training module includes interactive exercises on the interpretation of EBVs, allowing users to test their knowledge, and quiz sections on traits for growth, muscling and calving ease, with the information being displayed on both Sale Charts and Sale Cards.

EBLEX breeding services manager Sam Boon, who helped to develop the tool, said: “EBVs provide a clear indication of a bull’s genetic potential and selecting the right breeding potential for their farm can allow breeders to profit from performance.

This online program, which is accessible in just a few clicks, is designed to assist breeders in recognising certain traits and attributes, helping them understand the importance of EBVs so that they can make the best decisions for their business.

The beef EBV training tool, together with the sheep EBV training tool, can be accessed from the EBV training tools section of the website and the Signet website.
