Consignments at Dubbo increased by 2,500, totalling 3,900 head, with prices declining due to a reduction in demand from the regular buyers, according to levy board Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA).

Medium weight vealer heifers to restock sold from 150¢ to 164¢, while light yearling steers returning to the paddock topped at 202¢ to average 188¢/kg, reports MLA.

Medium yearling steers to feed sold from 179¢ to 220, while heavy weights sold between 180¢and 209¢/kg.

Medium yearling heifers to feed ranged from 158¢ to 186¢, while the better quality heavy weights topped at 194¢ to average 190¢/kg. Heavy C4 grown steers averaged 197¢/kg. Medium D3 cows ranged from 119¢ to 137¢, while heavy D4 lines topped at 156¢ to average 148¢/kg.

Numbers at Bairnsdale jumped with close to 900 export and 500 young cattle penned and prices generally eased. Medium vealer heifers to process topped at 222¢, up 18¢ on last week, while heavy yearling steers sold from 190¢ to 212¢/kg.

Heavy weight yearling heifers to slaughter sold from 172¢ to 206¢, while D3 bullocks averaged 197¢, unchanged on last week. Heavy D2 and 3 score cows sold relatively similar to last week averaging 152¢ and 158¢/kg respectively.

Roma prime yarded close to 3,000 head with and extra processor buyer present assisting in keeping prices buoyant, say market analysts at MLA.

Heavy C3 grown steers sold from 157¢ to 174¢, back 13¢, while D4 lines averaged 165¢/kg. Medium D3 cows ranged from 107¢ to 137¢ while heavy D4 cows topped at 145¢ to average 141¢/kg.

At the conclusion of Thursday’s markets the Eastern Young Cattle Indicator (EYCI) averaged 355.5¢, up 0.5¢/kg cwt on Wednesday’s levels. Trade steers averaged 203¢, while medium steers lifted 1¢ to finish on 178¢/kg. Heavy steers eased 2¢ on average, making 195¢, while the medium cow indicator averaged 134¢/kg. Feeder steers averaged 197¢/kg lwt.
