Further Cases of FMD in Southern Russia

RUSSIA - Another herd of cattle, sheep, goats and pigs in a village in southern Russia has been hit by Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) - the second in a week.

The veterinary authority sent Follow Up Report No. 2 dated 17 February to the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE).

The report describes an outbreak of FMD in a mixed village herd in Kulusutai in Zabajkal'skij Krai, which is near to the border with China.

Starting on 12 February, the outbreak affected 2,009 cattle - of which, five died - 2,711 sheep and goats and 92 pigs.

This outbreak is in the same region as one reported on 7 February. 

The usual control measures have been imposed and 3,127 cattle have been vaccinated against the disease.
