However, there was an increase in chilled beef shipments, up by seven per cent to 7,316 tonnes, which was offset by a decline in frozen beef - down 20 per cent to 8,170 tonnes.

Both chilled grass-fed and grain-fed beef exports to Japan exceeded last year’s volumes by 18 per cent to 1,919 tonnes and four per cent to 5,397 tonnes,

This was assisted by higher production, along with tighter supplies from the US into Japan.

In contrast, strong buying of Australian frozen beef from the US, China and the South East Asia region limited opportunities for Japan, with manufacturing beef shipments to the market falling 17 per cent year-on-year to 4,853 tonnes.
