The deal is the largest single order for Canadian cattle for ten years and the biggest ever to Asia.

The new opening could be worth up to CAN$20 million for Canada’s dairy farmers, the government has speculated.

On-going discussions between the Canadian Livestock Genetics Association and the dairy giant assisted the deal, said Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz.

He said the deal is promising for the sector, adding: “Our government is pleased to have been able to help advance this exciting trade opportunity for our hardworking cattle producers.

“Vietnam holds great potential for growth in the dairy sector, and it is no surprise that Canadian dairy cattle are being eyed for this deal given their world renowned recognition for superior quality.”
