Höglandsprodukter markets and sells high-quality Swedish beef, veal and pork that is locally sourced from Småland under the Höglandskött (Highland Meat) brand. In 2012, the company had a turnover of SEK 260 million.

HKScan has augmented its former 30 per cent ownership in Höglandsprodukter by acquiring the shares of four private partners that have run the company and will continue to work on the sales and development of Höglandskött as part of HKScan.

"By acquiring Höglandsprodukter, HKScan will strengthen its resources and supply of raw materials in order to further develop its existing and future business. At the same time, we are streamlining our supply chain. The Höglandskött brand enjoys a strong local presence and a strong position in the premium product segment, which is something that we wish to develop further," said Thomas Perkiö, Vice President, Business Development, HKScan Scandinavia.

The announcement has been submitted to the Competition Authority for regulatory review.
