A series of awareness events has been scheduled to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the Jamaica Agriculture Society’s ‘Eat What We Grow, Grow What We Eat’ campaign, launched in 2003.

The Society has endorsed the programme and will cooperate to help with the events.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries explains that the day is not a simplistic appeal, but a day to ask some serious questions about food budgets.

“I believe that we all wish to see the day when we eat more of what we produce locally in order to reduce our huge food import bill, which now stands at some US$1 billion,” the Minister of Agriculture, Roger Clarke said.
