The campaign started in Rondônia in August. In the other states, except in Piauí, immunization of livestock will begin in November.

The vaccination of the entire herd of cattle and buffaloes will be in Acre, Alagoas, Amazonas, Ceará, Espírito Santo, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Para, Paraiba, Parana, Pernambuco, Rio Grande do Norte and São Paulo.

Brazil is currently recognized as an FMD free zone with vaccination areas of 22 states (seven Northeastern and Pará in 2013) and the Federal District.

The campaign and all work carried out by the government is essential to prevent the re-introduction of the disease in the territory.

Santa Catarina is not on schedule to be FMD free without vaccination.
