Extra buying contributed to a 34 per cent year on year increase on the previous August, setting a new monthly record.

Chilean buying surged through August to cater for national day celebrations, held in September.

Shipments to Chile reached 3,975 tonnes swt which is the largest monthly total since Paraguay’s foot and mouth outbreak in 2011.

Russia remained the major destination for exports with Israel and Hong Kong orders increasing.
