Panama Tuberculosis Outbreak Confirmed in Nine Cattle

13 August 2013

PANAMA – Testing results have confirmed the extent of the latest bovine tuberculosis outbreak in a herd in Anton.

Mycobacterium bovis bacteria was isolated in the Veterinary Diagnostic and Research Laboratories in nine cases of 2,000 head of cattle.

Measures have been put in place to minimise risk of tuberculosis spread such as rigorous testing in six month intervals.

Regulations of the World Organisation for Animal Health are in operation across the infected zone.
