Aid Needed After 18,000 Cattle Die in Storm
INDIA – Emergency fodder is being airdropped in the Uttarakhand division of northern India where torrential rain has killed over 18,000 cattle.

A total of 18,228 cattle have been washed away and 20,000 hectares of farmland has been ‘severely damaged’ in the Rarprynang, Chamoli and the Uttarkashi areas.
This is according to a release on Sunday by the Uttarkhand principal secretary, Ranvir Singh, reported in the Times of India.
Cows have been washed away, meaning farm losses of over 10 lakh, said chief secretary Subhash Kumar.
State funding was secured at a meeting of the National Agriculture Development Scheme to invigorate farming in the area. Self-employment schemes in fish, dairy and organic farming are to compensate for losses.
