Livestock, Poultry Production up During First Half of 2013

UKRAINE - Livestock and poultry slaughter from January to June 2013 rose by 9.3 per cent and as a result, there has been an increased production of beef, pork and chicken, according to the Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhnyuk.

The Minister said that livestock and poultry production has become increasingly profitable not just for food manufacturers, but for farmers as well. Therefore, a number of programmes to financially aid and support individual farmers have been established.

Mr Prysiazhnyuk said that in the first half of 2013, all farming sectors showed a significant increase. Beef, pork and poultry production grew by 1.4 per cent, 7.1 per cent and 14.2 per cent, respectively.

According to the Minister, the growth rates in the livestock industry have contributed massively in bringing about public support programmes, allowing farmers to to receive payments.
