Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food Mykola Prysyazhnyuk said that the growth in production has helped launch this year's subsidies for local beef processing plants.

According to the Minister, the government continues to support the livestock industry, including the meat sector. This is especially true of households which produce more than half of the country's animal products.

"This support system continues to give good results. The high production of meat during the first five months of the year has helped increase production of both households and enterprises," he said.

The Minister added that for five months, the government has subsidised UAH8.6 million to support the beef and pork industries.

In addition to this, the Minister stressed that Ukraine continues to implement large-scale investments in animal husbandry projects.

The framework of the revitalization of economic development for 2013-2014, and reconstruction and opening of new livestock complexes with the involvement of investors are of particular importance.

According to Mr Prysiazhnyuk, this will help to ensure that within two years, milk production will have increased by 3.5 per cent, and slaughter will be up by 4.5 per cent.
